So i'm gunna come right out and say it...English went from my favourite subject to my least.
Why? you ask. simple. A teacher that treats us as if we are dumb shits that only just started year 7.
Instead of using class time to start writing our essasys she goes through simple-ass techniques that will "help us", so rather then save time and get it done in class, i then have to take this home and complete it unnesecerily at home!
Another thing that pisses me off is she has one set way of what's right and wrong. Heaven forbid, let's shoot Jeff down because he chooses to write a poem rather then a short story which everyone else did when she cleary said do some CREATIVE WRITING.
Her hand writing is apauling (i'm not one to judge but seriously, if your an english teacher...), so when i go to read another basically insulting comment she's written down the bottom i have to squint and strain my eyes to properly make out what she's written.
As Givernys in my class she may think i'm over exhadurating but seriously, this class is killing me. Last year in English i would not want the periods to end, now i find my self staring at the clock, trying to block out the douche bag kid up the front who's trying to score with some chick.
If there was any god in this world Mr M Goodwin would move to St Marys, take over my Englsih class, change the shit ass assesment tasks we're getting to something 'creative', rather then reading a crap book then writing something on it.
I miss the freedom of our class, i loved how every single person had a different way of writing and expressing themselves and Goodwin accepted it, not write a long comment down the bottom taking the shit out of a kid that wanted to try something different and was perfectly within reason to.
Anyways that's my bitch for today, this blog really helps let it all out.
P.S My teacher is a nice lady but still i'm developing a very strong disliking of her, not ready to use the h word yet.
Cheers
Jeff
hahaha! Wow that was out there i enjoyed reading that lol. Um and Jeff you think your English teacher is bad? Mines terrible- he talks about pedofiles and all his life stories.. join my club haha.
ReplyDeleteswap Marie?
ReplyDeleteHave you got Mrs Barry jeff?
ReplyDeleteNo, he has... http://www.grindhousedatabase.com/images/00002themack.jpg
ReplyDeleteTo an extent Jeff I agree with you. She does go through everything to a point where you're doing nothing but clock watching. And it drives me a little insane too. Find something to do, like start the essay anyway, I've been learning a script- it's great revision time lol.
ReplyDeleteWe got accustommed to Goodwin's style of teaching and quite frankly from what I've heard no other english teacher at our school has anything on him (yeah ego boost much sir?) and it's hard to get used to something else.
I disagree with her way of dealing with your creative writing piece and in all fairness she didnt specify that it was meant ot be a short story. I think it was just kind of assumed when thats what she spent all lesson ranting about.
Put it this way Jeff- it can hardly get much worse. It's not even possible to jinx that.
Righto, my body just crumpled and collapsed under the weight of my seriously over-inflated ego. My neck can't withstand the weight of my massive head!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, all other teachers are douchebags. It's that simple.
They are handed this beautiful school with eager young minds walking through their classroom doors and all they do is the same old tired stuff.
Creativity and originality are the keys to great writing. You are pushing yourself to raise your own bar. You are competing against your own expectations. All writing is entertainment. No author, journalist etc. writes to bore people. Whatever their subject matter, their primary goal is to ENTERTAIN, even if they're reporting on the stock exchange.
That being said, however, Jeff, you MUST adhere to what the teacher wants. This is a necessary evil in order to score decent marks. There's a difference between pushing the boundaries of a task and ignoring them altogether. If your teacher is a stinking pile of douche, then simply swallow the sad fact that she may not be flexible with her expectations. It sucks! Sucks BAD! But these are facts of life.
However, if you feel you're being pinned down by this stupid, uneducated, stale has-been and it's affecting your ability to produce decent work, you can always complain and go over her head. Have your work assessed by ANOTHER teacher. Second opinion.
I remember doing this when I was a St. Mary's student. I was fed up with one of your teachers, who was also one of mine back in the day and will remain nameless. She hated my writing and had it in for my style. She was into romantic literature and I was going through a modern, punctured, fractured writing phase. I had her comments and marks re-assessed and occasionally I won.
Food for thought.
But that's the thing Goodwin, no where did she set any task bounderies, she simply said do a creative writing thing on your most wonderful time or some crap like that.
