LOST IN SYDNEY -- THE MUSICAL (Time to write)

LOST IN SYDNEY
The Musical

For all those who are unaware of this amazing story and its origins, now is the time to tune in!  Lost in Sydney is an hilarious tale of an English teacher and his four students on their way to the State Debating Finals in Strathfield, Sydney.  Josh and Amy argue over everything from movies to God, while Giverny says very little.  All the while, the teacher slowly gets them lost, due to his stubborn refusal to take the motorways, believing no driver should pay to drive on the road.  Soon, it all falls apart for the teacher: his team lose their debate (under very bizarre circumstances) and his students lose faith in him, choosing to return home with the Singleton bus.  Desperate, the teacher chases them through the Sydney streets, but eventually loses them when their bus turns onto a motorway -- the very motorway the teacher refused to take.

It's funny stuff, guys.  Only one problem -- it's not really written yet.  I need Josh, Amy and Giverny to remind me of all the finer details so they're not lost forever.

If anyone else would like to help with this ridiculous story, please do!  Welcome!  Help!

  1. Ok, Some of the things i managed to remember:

*We had to write a song about how we hated Burwood.

*Another song where the lyrics are just street names, and where the characters are in the car and are failing to read a map, looking out the windows desperately trying to find the right school.

*Mr Goodwin ends up giving into the motorways. I think we had someone come out on stage dressed as a big "M7" or something. And that was your big solo.

*What the characters debated over. The reason why we lost was because a certain english teacher had given us the wrong topic for the debate and we didnt find out til we got there. So, instead of debating the topic we all had to do impromptu debates. Unfortunately, instead of nuclear power our topics were as followed:
    - Giverny: She failed her religion exam but shed studied so hard for it, so she just rambles on with religion facts for 8 mins.
    - Amy: Is an athiest and instead of rebuting the other teams points on the advantages of nuclear testing, ends up rebuting her first speaker on the premesis that she doesnt believe in religion.
    - Josh: Is very upset with Amy, because he thinks there is an after life, and keeps talking about his phsycatrist who is trying to help him overcome his problems, but he ends up tackling someone in the audience because the flag is around the wrong way.

*Then theres the song about how we knew we were going to win this debate, basically a discussion of what Mr Greaves and Mr Goodwin were going to have for dinner.

*The only reason why we ended up going with the singleton people was because, when we lost we blamed ourselves. We said that our prepared debates wern't good enough and that is was our fault we didnt get to the school earlier, when Mr Goodwin makes the mistake of telling us "Don't blame yourselves, it's my fault. I should have double checked you had the right topic, and i stoped at maccas on the way down and got you lost in Burwood" We agree with him and then go with the singelton people.

    * I'm not sure if this is correct but i remember discussing that the singleton bus hit Mr Goodwin and he ended up in hospital, but i think that was just josh.

Well thats all i can remember for now.

  2. Ever heard the saying "What happens on tour, Stays on tour" Amy?

  3. Yeah, i have heard of the saying, and yes it may not be funny to you guys, but, i'd prefer to have all this written down, because you don't have to view it if you dant want. But then its there for us who do

  4. It's the same with "The Cleaners" -- unless you were a student of St. Joeys, or know who Steve Bartlett is, then you're not going to find it funny at all.

  5. Amy, what was the debate topic again? I remember that that played a part somehow.

Oh, and what do you lot end up arguing with each other about during the debate, rather than arguing with the opposition?

  6. I think Amy basically just talks about why there is no after life, and then I basically just rebut all of her points, and that's where the arguing amongst ourselves came into it. As for the originaly topic, I think it was just nuclear testing in Australia. And yes Amy, the ending is: We see Goodwin crossing the road right in front of our bus, and Pulp Fiction style, we run over him. Then we all end up in his hospital room laughing about the situation.

  7. That's right. The ending is a ridiculous 'reunion' where, in his hospital bed, the teacher apologises for his arrogance and refusing to take the motorway. The students apologise for blowing the debate, blaming the teacher for it, abandoning him and eventually, trying to kill him with their Singleton minibus. All is forgiven and a joyous song is sung.

Who needs Shakespeare with quality storytelling like this?

  8. Actually, if one looks closely, one could find several large connections between this, and Shakespear's classic, King Lear.

I'm kidding, I've never read that, nor do I have the faintest idea what it's about, haha.

  9. Not far off though, Jeff! King Lear has three daughters and is betrayed by two of them. They kick him out on his butt and he goes slowly mad in the desert.

The teacher in this story finds himself abandoned and slowly goes mad, thinking the motorway is calling to him, like a demon from hell, tempting its prey into eternal damnation!

  10. hahaha. Exactly. Also, isnt there a time when we are on the singelton minibus where the teacher starts going on about all this stuff we hadnt yet learnt at joeys, thus, we are turned against goodwin more. But really the only reason why he wanted us to abandon our school was because he didnt get a job there.?

  11. I don't remember the bit about him not getting a job here...
