I was trying for a moment of peace in the film, a kind of "calm before the storm" moment. After all, this is the very last scene in the film before it all goes to hell for Emma and Daniel.
Also, our two protagonists FALL ASLEEP. The soothing rain helps put our exhausted victims to rest. And you know, never NEVER fall asleep in a Dead End film. I wanted the idea that perhaps Nature is working against our protagonists in this strange world they've found themselves in.
But, yes, that line did get a few laughs from the audience.
