  1. Honestly, i dont see why that is so hard, i got 1 question wrong ( stupid flowers of Australia) but keep in mind these tests are multiple choice.

If migrants what to come to Australia they should know this stuff, why? who knows? I'm not trying to sound racist or anything but Migration isn't something you decide on overnight, these people would have ample time prepare for a test like this, It's the same as going for your L's, some of the questions may never actually happen to you in real life but you need to know it.

Fair enough people might want this test scrapped, but i believe we at least need an English test, how can someone come to a country without knowing a single word of the language and expect to be accepted.

When we were at the Snow Trip an Asian man could not speak a word of English and was yelling in another Language at this shop keeper because she couldn't understand what he was trying to say. Who's Fault is it?

  3. To Jeff,

Both of my parents didn't speak any English when they migrated to Australia, but they eventually learnt to (and still are learning).

If there really was a compulsory English test for migrants, I don't think Australia would be as multicultural as it is now. Although, I do understand your point about people who don't speak any English at all, but it just depends on where they live in Australia or their occupation.

  4. Did your parents have relatives over here already because obviously that would make it a lot easier.

I'm not saying they should be perfect at english but a very basic test should be put in place, what happens if someone who can't speak english hurts themselves or a fire breaks out or some sort of emergency hits them and they can't even communicate simply.

  5. My Dad didn't have any relatives here and came to Australia as an illegal migrant, and my Mum came here for a holiday and married my Dad.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Recently, I met one of my Dad's friends who lives in Cabramatta and he doesn't speak any English. But because of where he lives, not being able to speak English isn't really a huge problem, considering he works with people who he can communicate with. As I said before, it just depends on where you live or if you're willing to learn English once you've moved to Australia.

  7. Alex, we are talking BASIC!!!!! like, what does the word HELLO, now basically everyone (except maybe a few from cessnock) could pass the test with flying colours lol.

  8. Most people DO know what hello means. You shouldn't patronize people who don't speak fluent English... In fact, people in foreign countries use it too, like when they're answering the phone.

I'm sure it isn't that hard to move to Australia from a foreign country and pick up BASIC English. It's not as if foreigners prefer to come here to not be able to speak the dominant language.

My Dad WAS an illegal migrant but then they changed some law that applied to him and now he's a citizen...

By the way, if it sounds like I'm angry at you, I'm not. I just don't know how to make my typing sound happy...

  9. I think that maybe instead of a test (or in addition to a small easy one) there should basically be a rule that anyone who wants to come to Australia must take a basic english course. It can be provided by the government, and would be much more efficient than some crappy, unbeatable test with question's like "who was Australia's 3rd Prime Minister to get a vote of 72 percent in an odd numbered year?".

  11. Meh, a test shows preparation, fair enough giving refugess a basic english class cause they havent had the chance to learn english but migrants have and you do realise just like every school/ course after u finish it you must take a test so u cant completly get rid of it.

Oh and alex knowing u if josh went into power u would criticism him to death, i no wat your like with politics :P
